Porter is a writer, performer and zealous developer of other people' plays, and not solely as a means of avoiding work. Porter has written a dozen plays several of which have won awards, grants, and positive press (which she claims she doesn't read). Porter's play Munched recently premiered in Hollywood, California with the Buzzworks Theatre Company where it ran for 8 weeks and then enjoyed a 4 week extension. Porter enjoyed that as well.
What has Porter been up to the last couple of years?
Her short play In the Wake of the Bounty by William Liferaft Lament (also-known-as Liferaft Willie, also-known-as In the Wake of the Bounty) was presented at the Fritz Blitz in San Diego in '07 and it was such a big hit it was invited back in '08. Again, Porter played it cool, but deep down she was totally stoked.
In January of '09 Liferaft Willie traveled to NYC (Porter as well) to appear in the Chester Horn Short Play Festival (Porter appeared in the audience) where it was selected as audience favorite (Porter didn.t even vote).
Her short play, The Poet, appeared in Phoenix at the Space 55 Short Play Festival and in NYC at the Chester Horn Festival in the fall of '09.
Her 10 minute comedy Drifting appeared at the Pandora Festival and at The Summer Shorts festival in Phoenix in '08. It won no awards, nor did it receive any reviews and therefore Porter is hiding it way down here in her bio. Porter thinks it's good, but doesn't find others equally impressed, so she thinks about it whenever she needs to be humbled.
She is currently developing a full length drama titled, confusingly, Wake of the Bounty and a musical called Blue Galaxy with song writer Roger Clark.
Porter teaches playwriting and solo-performance, and has helped dozens and dozens of writers at all ages and skill levels develop the stories they mean to tell. If you are interested in taking her class, please visit her classes page.
Originally from Texas, Porter lived and worked in San Diego and San Francisco for two decades before moving to Arizona.
